Spring Breaking in Isabela Island Pt. 2
Between our third and 4th modules, we have now a week-long spring break through which we’re free to hop between islands of the archipelago. This weblog will cowl my 2nd day on Isabela Island, after I separated myself from the IES Overseas itinerary, to climb a volcano with a few of my mates.
Anticipation
After an extended day of exploring Floreana Island and snorkeling at Los Tuneles in Isabela, my fellow IES college students and I have been anxiously ready for our dinner to be served. We have been exhausted, sticky with sweat, and I used to be considering whether or not to proceed with IES’s itinerary and head to Santa Cruz Island, or keep behind on Isabela with a few of my mates. When my mates instructed me they have been going to hike a volcano the next day, there was little doubt in my thoughts I’d keep behind and do the identical. I had booked no resort, no ticket again house, I used to be going to climb a volcano and determine the small print later. My mates and I ditched dinner, sprinted over to a tour company and secured a $30 Sierra Negra tour with lunch and transportation included for the next morning.
Volcan Sierra Negra
Sierra Negra is an energetic protect volcano situated on the southern finish of Isabela Island. This volcano’s caldera boasts a diameter of 6 miles, reported because the 2nd largest in Ecuador. A caldera refers back to the volcano’s heart, much like how some facilities are described as craters. Craters describe a funnel-shaped pit of a volcano, whereas calderas describe an inward collapsed volcano. The Sierra Negra volcano final erupted in 2018 and it’s HUGE. I paid $30 for a tour with a few mates, and a pure information accompanied us for the ten mile hike that took roughly 5 hours.
Volcan Chico
After mountain climbing Sierra Negra, our tour group moved on to hike Volcan Chico. There, all of us sat right down to have lunch on the highest level of the volcano. The stroll to Volcan Chico had me satisfied I used to be strolling on Mars. Simply take a look at the photographs under, doesn’t it seem like the set of Star Wars?
