Who’s Audrey’s son Stephen Reid and when was he on Coronation Avenue? | Soaps

After weeks of heavy drinking, 80-something Audrey hits the bottle again, despite worried daughter Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) begging her to bin the booze for good.

Mid-bender, she stumbles and dramatically falls, with a motorbike landing of top of her – and is seemingly left for dead.

Fortunately, this isn’t the end of Audrey’s time as a Corrie mainstay, as she’s rescued by her son, Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce), who shows up to the Cobbles in a taxi just in the nick of time, and next week we’ll see him visit his mum as she recovers in hospital.

But who is Stephen, and have we seen him on the soap before?

Who is Audrey Roberts’ son Stephen Reid?

When Audrey – then called Audrey Potter – was a teenager, she gave up her son Stephen for adoption.

He was born in 1957, as Audrey’s first child, and was moved to Canada in 1960 with his adoptive family, the Reids, who were good pals with and lived nearby the Potters.

Has Stephen Reid been in Coronation Street before?

We have indeed seen Stephen before – played by the same actor, Todd Boyce, too.

Todd-as-Stephen first appeared on Coronation Street in January 1996, as he travelled from Canada to Weatherfield in order to get to know Audrey, his biological mother, and meet his younger half-sister Gail.

He soon went back to Canada, also offering nephew Nick Tilsley a job, and later moved to Italy.

In 2007, Stephen returned to Weatherfield to spend Christmas with Audrey, and ended up offering Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) a job in Milan, where she went with daughter Bethany.

We haven’t seen the character or Stephen on the soap since December that year, so his return is sure to delight long-time fans of the ITV hit.
