A convicted paedophile is ready to be extradited again to Scotland eight years after he was discovered responsible of possessing indecent materials and fled to Thailand.
William Dempster, from Lanarkshire, was convicted of getting indecent photos of kids in his possession in Might 2014.
However following his conviction he fled the UK earlier than he might be sentenced, sparking an eight-year-long hunt to trace him down.
Police in Scotland mentioned on Tuesday that Dempster, 46, has been traced in a metropolis in Thailand.
Officers from the Royal Thai Police, working with Scottish counterparts and the Nationwide Crime Company, arrested Dempster on Might 30.
He was detained beneath a global arrest warrant in Pattaya, a metropolis round 62 miles south-east of the capital Bangkok.
Dempster will now face extradition proceedings with a purpose to be returned to Scotland.
In a press release, Police Scotland mentioned: “[A] 46-year-old man, William Dempster from Lanarkshire, was convicted of being present in possession of indecent photos of kids in Might 2014.
“He fled the nation earlier than he might be sentenced and was believed to have fled to Thailand.
“Earlier in the present day, following intensive enquiries by our officers and our colleagues on the Nationwide Crime Company and the Royal Thai Police, he was arrested on a global warrant in Pattaya and can now face extradition proceedings.”
